In order for an activated alumina system to work your drinking water must have a pH level that’s lower than 8.5. Additionally, the filter cartridges much be placed regularly in order to keep the system working efficiently. Between the high initial cost, ongoing costs, and maintenance needs, for some, these filtration systems won’t be worth the higher price tag.
Deionizing Systems
Similar to distillation, the deionizing filtration process involves the removal of ionic particles from the water. This process is designed to eliminate a wide range of toxins and contaminants, especially fluoride. The drawback? Any type of contaminant that’s non-ionic will remain in the water.
